Bharat Bijlee recently inaugurated
its highly modernized and
refurbished transformer plant
enabling the company to achieve 25 per
cent more manufacturing capacity. The
transformer plant is part of the
company's manufacturing complex at
Airoli in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The transformer plant is now
equipped with "PWRLEX", a new
technology that gives the plant total
pressurized-air clean room
environment. The epoxy flooring
permits movement of transformers even
those weighing up to 200 tonnes on
a cushion of air using aero casters
that can be controlled by a single
operator. The plant also has modern
vapour-phase plants and large
winding machines. The new
advancements have been designed to
high productivity with low cycle
times. The plant's capacity is now
expected to be 15,000 MVA per year,
up from the earlier 12,000 MVA.
A Bharat Bijlee official said that the
company currently makes transformers
up to 220kV range, but has plans to
move soon to the 400kV class. As part of
its business growth plans, the company
was keen on focusing on the exports
market, the official noted. The range of
transformers made by Bharat Bijlee
cover power transformers, generator
transformers, unit auxiliary
transformers and transformers for
special application.
Apart from transformers, the
Mumbai-headquartered electrical
engineering firm is also engaged in
electric motors, drives, elevators and
switchyard turnkey projects.
