Orient Green Power Company Ltd
recently synchronized to grid a 18.7-
mw wind farm in Tamil Nadu,
through its wholly-owned subsidiary Beta
Wind Farms Ltd. Located at
Gudimangalam in Tiruppur district, the
new farm has taken Orient Green's total
operational wind power portfolio to 198
mw (see table). The Chennai-based
independent renewable energy player
today has 172 mw of operational wind
power capacity in Tamil Nadu making it
amongst the leading wind players in the
southern state. Shortly before the
Gudimangalam achievement, Orient also
announced the commissioning of a 10-mw
biomass-fired power plant near Pollachi
in Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu.
Of the total operational renewable
energy capacity of 248.5 mw that Orient
Green currently has, Tamil Nadu accounts
for 82 per cent. Apart from wind energy
and biomass, Orient also has plans to add
small hydropower plants to its portfolio.
The clean energy player also expects to
commission 40 mw of new renewable
energy capacity in the near future.
The steady increase in capacity will see
the company consolidate its position as
the leading independent renewable
energy-based power generation company
in India, a company statement observed.
