Havells India Ltd has expanded its
switchgear manufacturing operations by
recently setting up an additional plant at
Sahibabad Industrial Area, Ghaziabad, Uttar
Pradesh, to cater both to domestic and
international markets
Set up with an investment of
50 crore, the new
plant seeks to double the company's current
revenue from the switchgear segment to
1,800 crore, in the next three years. The
industrial switchgear segment, which currently
contributes
200 crore per year is also
expected to double to
400 crore within the
next two years.
Speaking about the expansion, the company
President Sunil Sikka stated that Havells was
essentially a switchgear company, however
it is now more known as a consumer
electrical company. The capacity at
Sahibabad was envisaged keeping in mind
the company's focus business which was not
getting as much attention as it deserved.
Though the business was growing at a good
pace, there is a scope for further growth, he
said. Now, the company has expanded the
whole range of switchgear. With the
augmentation of switchgear capacity, the
company has divided its switchgear
manufacturing in two parts. While the lowend
switchgear products continue to be
manufactured at its Faridabad plant in
Haryana, all high-end products will be
manufactured at the Sahibabad plant.
Sikka further observed that the new
Sahibabad plant spread over 10.5 acres is
one of the country's most modern industrial
products manufacturing plants today.
Amongst the prominent industrial products,
air circuit breakers (ACB), moulded case
circuit breakers (MCCB), control gear range
and changeover switches will constitute the
main product portfolio for Havells at the new
Sahibabad plant.
Dwelling on the key highlights of the plant,
Sikka said that it has a world class state-of-theart
tool room equipped with EDMs, wirecuts,
CNC machine centre, etc. A moulding shop
equipped with latest injection and
compression moulding machines from world
renowned manufacturer such as Ferromatik
Milacron, Hwa Chin. The plant has a
computerized spot welding brazing and
welding machines for contact tip contactors
and relays, to maintain required parameters.
The plant also has an in-house R&D setup to
continuously upgrade products, precision
measuring instruments to control design
parameters, testing facilities to conform to
national and international test standards.
He mentioned that the company is
continuously expanding its capacities and
product portfolio to cater to the rapidly
changing market dynamics and constantly
focusing on R&D to bring in the paradigm shift
in the industry. The new plant will give us an
incisive edge over the competition due to better
efficiencies in the systems backed by large
scale automated operations and focus on the
high-end switchgear.
The company plans to expand its industrial
market reach by doubling the network and high
focus on project business. Introduction of new
product portfolios like control gear and panels
will add to the growth of the industrial
switchgear segment.
Next in line for Havells is setting up a
manufacturing unit of lighting fixtures at
Neemrana in Rajasthan. The company has
acquired a 10-acre plot and is currently
working on setting up the unit. The factory,
expected to be completed in a couple of
months, will be the first lighting fixture factory
by the company in India.
