Power Grid Corporation of India
could maintain a near-perfect
average availability of its
transmission lines during 2010-11.
While announcing the company's Q2
results, R.N. Nayak, CMD, PGCIL,
noted that average availability of
PGCIL's transmission lines was 99.8
per cent. This was made possible by
the deployment of modern preventive
maintenance techniques, Nayak
said. The Central transmission
utility currently operates 87,000
ckm of transmission lines together
with 139 substations aggregating
transformation capacity of over
96,000 MVA.
Discussing recent achievements,
Nayak said that on September 29, 2011,
PGCIL commissioned 70 km of
transmission lines associated with the
ultra mega power project at Mundra in
Gujarat. The project was commissioned
amdist tough weather conditions and
terrains in creek area of Arabian Sea.
PGCIL had to contend with serious
right-of-way and water-logging
challenges during the project execution.
Meanwhile, PGCIL recorded a 9 per
cent profit for the quarter ending
September 30, 2011. The profit figure
stood at
708.74 crore as against
651.40 crore in the same period last
year. Revenues of PGCIL increased to
2,459 crore in the second quarter of
FY12 as against
2,223 crore in the
comparable period of FY11.
