Crompton Greaves recently
dispatched its 1,200kV auto
transformer to Power Grid
Corporation of India, to be employed at
the Bina UHVAC test station in Madhya
Pradesh. This is CG's first indigenously
designed and developed 1,200kV
transformer. The transformer was
successfully tested at CG's
transformer division at Mandideep in
Madhya Pradesh.
Globally, the 1,200 kV UHVAC is
limited to a few countries like Russia
(1,200 kV), Japan (1,100 kV), Italy
(1,050 kV) and China (1,100 kV), a
statement by CG observed.
Commensurate with Government of
India's plan for augmentation of installed
power generation capacity and
corresponding transmission corridors,
the country would need in the near
future, 1,200kV AC as next transmission
voltage for bulk transfer of power of the
order of 3,000 mw to 6,000 mw per line
from power generation complexes in
east and north east to load centers
located in northern and western regions.
The 1,200kV AC will be the highest
transmission voltage in the world.
PGCIL collaborated with
manufacturers and CG was selected as
one of the major partners to develop
this equipment and took this
opportunity as an R&D project to
develop this technology.
