Alstom T&D India (formerly
Areva T&D India) has been
awarded a bulk contract worth
Rs.64.8 crore by Power Grid
Corporation of India Ltd for supplying
64 numbers of 765kV circuit breakers.
These will be employed in various
substations like Dharamjaygarh,
Jabalpur, Bhiwani, Satna (Extension.),
Gwalior (Extension) and Rajgarh
Pooling (near Kotra), a statement by
Alstom said.
Alstom Grid is the first
manufacturer to localize circuit
breakers up to 765kV and beyond,
with spring operating mechanism, the
statement said. Alstom Grid is leading
global supplier of circuit breakers in
the range of 72.5kV to 800kV with a
strong market share.
Commenting on the contract,
Rathin Basu, Managing Director,
Alstom T&D India shared, "In 2009,
we successfully commissioned
India's first EHV 765kV circuit
breaker for NTPC Sipat. Alstom
T&D India made significant
investments from 2007 to 2009 to
build state-of-the-art
manufacturing facilities at
Paddapai, Tamil Nadu with capacity
to produce EHV 765kV and UHV
(Ultra High Voltage) 1,200kV
switchgear products."
With the new order bulk order,
Alstom T&D India has won the
mandate to supply 765kV circuit
breakers to 23 out of the 40 EHV
substations awarded so far, the
statement added.
