KEC International expects to
commission its extra-high voltage
(EHV) cable plant by April this
year. The plant to manufacture cables in
the 220kV and 400kV range is coming up
at Vadodara in Gujarat.
The Indian cable industry size is
estimated at Rs.12,000 crore per year, out
of which the EHV cable market (rating of
over 220kV) is placed at Rs.300 crore. The
market is dominated by players like
Universal Cables and Cable Corporation
of India. Besides, there are several
domestic companies entering the market,
some with international collaborations.
It may be mentioned that in October
2009, KEC International announced the
merger of its group company RPG Cables
with itself.
It is also learnt that KEC International
would be keen on exporting EHV cables
to Africa and also undertaking EHV cable
contracting works, with a view to
realizing better margins.
