Adani Power is confident of
commissioning the first unit of
its Tiroda supercritical power
project in Rajasthan in the first quarter
of the current fiscal year. In an
interaction with Electrical Monitor, Ravi
Sharma, CEO - Adani Power Business,
said, "The Tiroda power project is well
on schedule and we are on track to
commission the first supercritical unit
of 660-mw in the first quarter of FY13."
The Tiroda power with an
aggregate capacity of 3,300 mw
comprises five supercritical units of
660-mw each. Two units will be set
up in the first phase followed by
three in the second. The project,
located in Gondia district, is being
implemented by group company
Adani Power Maharashtra Ltd.
Speaking of other supercritical
power projects of the group, Sharma
said that construction of the 2x660-
mw Kawai project in Rajasthan was
in full swing. "We are confident that
the plant will be fully commissioned
by March 2013."
The Adani Group has been a
proponent of supercritical power
technology in India and also takes
credit for commissioning India's first
supercritical power plant. This feat
was accomplished in December 2010
when Adani brought on line one 660-
mw unit of the massive Mundra
power plant. Recalling the
achievement, Sharma observed, "It
was synchronized within 36 months
of inception, which is the fastest
implementation ever by any power
developer in the country."
The Mundra project today has a
total generation capacity of 4,620 mw,
also making the world's largest private
sector thermal power plant at a single
location. The power plant has nine
units-four of 330 mw and five
supercritical units of 660-mw each.
Summarizing Adani's plans in the
power sector, Ravi Sharma noted,
"We at Adani are operating 4,660 mw
of thermal and solar power today and
are in an advanced stage of
construction of more than 5,000 mw
by end of 2013."
