Alstom, in consortium with
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd,
has secured a contract from the
Nuclear Power Corporation of India
Ltd to supply the turbine generator
package for the Rajasthan Atomic
Power Project (RAPP) Units 7 & 8,
located at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan.
Alstom's share in the total consortium
contract is around Rs.700 crore.
Alstom and BHEL will supply,
install and commission the turbine
generator packages for the power
station's two new 700-mw units. The
expansion of the existing capacity of
the existing 1,180 mw of RAPP nuclear
power plant will help meet increasing
demand for power in the country.
This contract marks Alstom's
growing contribution to nuclear energy
in India after the award of the contract
for 2x700-mw units for the Kakrapar 3
and 4 nuclear power plant in Gujarat a
year ago, a release from Alstom noted.
The first contract that Alstom executed
for NPCIL was for Rajasthan unit 1 and
unit 2 in 1973 and 1981. The RAPP (Unit
7 and 8) project aims to add 1,400 mw to
the northern grid by FY17. Out of this,
700 mw will be for Rajasthan. The
project has been under execution since
July 18, 2011 - the day of the "First Pour
of Concrete."
