Mitsubishi Electric
Corporation in early
October shipped its
milestone 2,000th turbine
generator, a 682,000 kVA unit, to a
thermal power plant owned by
Dominion Virginia Power, a
subsidiary of Dominion Resources,
Inc., in Warren County, Virginia in
the United States.
Mitsubishi Electric has
continuously expanded its global
market since it started
manufacturing turbine generators in
1908. The company completed a large
expansion of its generator factory in
Kobe in March 2012, increasing
production capacity in order to be
equivalent to the growth of worldwide
electric power demand. Owing
to the expansion, the factory has also
become capable of producing world's
largest-class (2,000MVA) generators,
it said in a release.
A little over 50 per cent of the
total turbine-generators have been
supplied to Japan, followed by rest
of Asia (19.7 per cent), Americas
(13.8 per cent) and Middle East (9.7
per cent).
