The first consignment of the
6x200-mw Punatsangchhu-I
Hydroelectric Project, Bhutan
was dispatched from BHEL, Bhopal
recently. The mandate of
transporting the ODC consignment
was placed on Bhopal-based Pavan
Road Carriers.
An official BHEL release said that
this is the first major international
contract finalized by CDC, BHEL,
Bhopal. This contract assumes
significance due to the fact that apart
from Punatsagchhu-I, BHEL, Bhopal
shall also be supplying equipments for
Punatsangchhu-II (6x170-mw) and
Mangdechhu (4x180-mw) contract
projects in the near future. The
contract shall involve transportation
of large ODC consignments to difficult
mountainous terrain of Bhutan.
Bhutan has unveiled an ambitious
plan to add 10,000 mw of capacity of
hydro power by FY17, much of it
with technical and financial
assistance from India. BHEL is
destined to play an instrumental role
in achieving this goal. BHEL enjoys
over 95 per cent share of installed
capacity in Bhutan with completed
projects like Chukha (4x84-mw),
Tala (6x170-mw) and Kurichu (4x15-
mw), a statement by BHEL said.
