Siemens Ltd has signed a contract
worth Rs.146.86 crore with Power
Grid Corporation of India Ltd to
build a 765kV test laboratory, the firstof-
its-kind in India. The location for
building the laboratory for National
High Power Test Laboratory (NHPTL) is
Bina in Madhya Pradesh. Siemens has
bagged this order on a turnkey basis and
will be executing the project as an endto-
end solution provider. NHPTL is the
initiative of Ministry of Power and will
provide state-of-the art, international
class on-line high power short circuit
test facility in India. The company is a
joint venture formed by the association
of NTPC, NHPC, Power Grid, DVC and
Central Power Research Institute.
To this project, Siemens will be
extending some of its highly advanced
technologies including 765kV-make
switch, control and monitoring
system (CMS) and associated
substations for 765kV and 400kV,
among others. It is reported that
Siemens has also been contracted for
the annual maintenance of this test
laboratory for five years. The project
has been rolled out with immediate
effect and is expected to be
commissioned in 14 months, by mid
of calendar year 2013.
