Alstom T&D India has been
awarded a turnkey Fixed
Series Compensation (FSC)
contract worth around Rs.65 crore by
Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd
to improve power quality on the
400kV Wardha - Aurangabad
Transmission Network in
Maharashtra. The contract marks yet
another milestone in Alstom’s strong
partnership with PGCIL to upgrade
the existing transmission
infrastructure in the country. It also
marks the first FSC contract for
Alstom Grid India, according a press
statement.
Alstom will deliver the project on a
turnkey basis, including design,
engineering, manufacturing, supply,
erection, testing & commissioning of
the FSC system. Under the contract,
Alstom will supply capacitors, spark
gaps, as well as control and
instrumentation systems and an
insulated platform. The project will
be executed by Alstom T&D India
and Alstom Grid Finland and is
scheduled for commissioning in
2014.
Alstom’s FSC system, one of the
largest to be built in the world, will
increase power capacity across the
entire transmission line. Fixed series
compensation has long been the
preferred solution for optimizing
performance in very large bulk
transmission corridors. The function
of the FSC system and its capacitors
in a power grid is to improve
efficiency by minimizing electrical
losses and increasing the
transmission system’s overall
transfer capability.
