BHEL wins supercritical order for Nabinagar project

Em News Bureau ,  Saturday, March 16, 2013, 11:24 Hrs  [IST]

Bharat Heavy Electricals has reported the winning of a Rs.2,854-crore order for supply of the steam generator (boiler) package for three coal-fired thermal units of 660-mw each with supercritical parameters for the Nabinagar power project in Bihar. The order has been placed by Nabinagar Power Generation Company Ltd, which is a joint venture of NTPC and Bihar State Electricity Board (now reconstituted). Incidentally, the order for turbine-generators for the Nabinagar project has been placed on Alstom. (See box)

Alstom-BF JV wins TG package

The turbine-generator package order for the Nabinagar project was placed on Alstom Bharat Forge Power Ltd – a joint venture between Bharat Forge Ltd and Alstom Power Holdings SA. The order is valued at Rs.2,251 crore. In April last year, the same JV had won the order to supply the turbine-generator island for NTPC’s 2x660-mw Solapur project in Maharashtra.

In an independent development, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd signed a loan agreement worth Rs.8,775 crore with NTPC for the 3x660-mw Nabinagar power project. This is the largest loan ever sanctioned by REC on standalone basis. Usually, loans of this magnitude are sanctioned by consortia of at least five lending institutions, industry sources said.

This is the second supercritical thermal power project being executed by BHEL in Bihar, the first being the 2x660 MW Barh STPP Stage-II of NTPC that is in an advanced stage of completion.

According to information available, BHEL is involved in supplying supercritical power equipment (either boilers or turbine-generators or both) to ten projects aggregating some 14,600 mw. (See table.)
