REFUsol Electronics Pvt Ltd, the Indian arm of German manufacturer of solar inverters, has begun production of solar power inverters at a new plant at Lonikand near Pune. It has also set up an R&D Centre to develop products needed for the local market.

The company, which has invested Euro 1.5 million so far, has begun making three phase string inverters and plans to start manufacture of central inverters by the middle of this year. The plant will cater to the Indian, South Asian and West Asian markets.

With a current capacity of 15,000 units a year, the REFUsol products range from 10 to 23 kW and are targeted at commercial rooftops, but the central inverters, which will entail a further investment of around 5 million euros will range from 333 kW to 1MW in size, according to Norbert Frings, MD and CEO, REFUsol GmbH.

While the inverters were built from imported components at present, REFUsol had plans to localise to the extent of 50 per cent by the end of the year. India is one of three development hubs worldwide for the company, and will operate as the hub for Asia.
