High-Volt Electricals receives SME 100 Award

SME 100 AwardMumbai-based High-Volt Electricals Pvt Ltd was a recipient of the “BOI India SME 100 Awards” distributed at a glittering event held in Mumbai on April 18, 2013. Supported by the Union ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises, the awards celebrated India’s SME achievers for the year 2012.

Rajesh V. Shah, CMD, High-Volt Electricals, who collected the award on behalf of his company, told Electrical Monitor, “Such recognitions go a long way in inspiring the SME sector to make higher contributions to the nation’s growth.” HVEPL won the award under the highly competitive “Engineering Goods” category.

This year, India SME Forum (ISF) received over 42,500 nominations out of which the best 100 SMEs were selected after a stringent evaluation process audited by SDRC. The evaluation was based on both financial and non-financial parameters. In terms of overall weight in the evaluation process, two parameters – corporate growth and innovation – accounted for 55 per cent.

ISF is India’s only not-for-profit, non-governmental and non-trade association enabling SMEs to share best practices, addressing their concerns and rewarding success. ISF has a member of over 3.28 lakh members from 21 Indian states.

Established in 1979, HVEPL is engaged in the manufacture of distribution and medium range power and instrument transformers. An ISO-certified company and with a high technical rating of SE1B from CRISIL, HVEPL is a registered vendor to India’s biggest utilities. Rajesh Shah noted that apart from power utilities, HVEPL has is very closely associated with Indian Railways. “We have a very long standing business relationship with the Railways. We are registered with Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) for manufacture and repairs to locomotive and traction power transformers,” observed Shah. Recalling the company’s long journey of over three decades, Shah reminisced, “We started off as a very small manufacturing unit way back in 1979 and today, we are proud to be one of the partners in transfer-of-technology from a global giant like ABB for three-phase locomotive transformers for Indian Railways.”

A striking point in this year’s India SME 100 Awards was winners were distributed across a wide gamut of sector from toy manufacturing to engineering goods, from modular furniture to electronic goods, and from services spanning logistics to information technology.
