Skipper Electricals Nigeria Ltd, the
Nigerian subsidiary of the Skipper
Group, has planned to set up a large
transformer factory in the Ikorodu area
of Lagos state, Nigeria. The project is
part of the company's commitment to
develop the power sector of Nigeria
where the group started operations 11
years ago. Skipper feels that the
transformer factory will save Nigeria
much-needed foreign exchange, provide
local employment and generally boost
the country's economy.
Skipper Electricals, through its
holding company, Skipper Energy
Limited, has 100 per cent subsidiaries
in several countries, including Nigeria,
Ghana, Dubai, Switzerland, and India.
Skipper has made giant strides in all
the countries it operates, in terms of
capacity building and human capacity
development.
In Nigeria, Skipper has to its record
setting up Africa's first polymeric
insulator plant in 2008. Other
achievements include the
introduction of tamper resistance
metering panels in 2002, which saves
the defunct NEPA, now PHCN from
further loss of revenue, generation of
electricity through solar energy in
some villages in Nigeria, and the
supply of more than 200 power
transformers and almost all substation
equipments to the PHCN,
among others.
