Noida-based Dixon
Technologies is
joining hands with
the US-based Lighting
Science Group, the world's
leading LED company, for
manufacturing and
marketing a large scale LED
products in India.
Both the companies
jointly plan to set up a
facility to manufacture
light-emitting diode (LED)
lighting products of
Lighting Science Group for
the domestic market. The
facility will manufacture
65w sub-$15
omnidirectional street,
industrial, outdoor and
domestic lamps. This unit is
estimated to cost up to

50
crore and will be operational
by January 2012.
The lamps will utilize up
to 85 per cent reduced
electricity than the current
compact fluorescent lamps
(CFL) used in India for their
long life and high
efficiency. But the mercury
present in the CFL makes
the disposal of them
complicated. LED lights
have no polluting
substances in them and
they even consume 35 per
cent less electricity than
CFL lamps.

The Indian lighting
market, estimated at

225
crore last year, is expected
to grow to

2,000 crore by
2015. "As India undergoes
an infrastructure
transformation in the next
few years, the country has
an unprecedented
opportunity to leapfrog the
rest of the world by
becoming an early, largescale
adopter of LED
technology," said Jim
Haworth, chairman and
chief executive officer of
Lighting Science Group, in
a release.
