
Sterlite Grid Ltd, a whollyowned
subsidiary of Sterlite
Technologies Ltd, has awarded
power transmission-related
contracts aggregating

500 crore
through international competitive
bidding. The suppliers selected
include Hyundai Heavy Industries of
South Korea, China-based Baoding
Tianwei Baobian Electric Company
Ltd and Areva T&D India (now
Alstom Grid). The contracts
envisage supply of equipment like
765kV transformers and shunt
reactors and EPC contracting of two
1,500MVA (765/400kV) substations.
These substations would be set up
at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh) and at
Dhule in Maharashtra. The
substations are part of the
transmission systems strengthening
project awarded to Sterlite Grid Ltd
on a 'Build, Own, Operate and
Maintain' (BOOM) basis wherein
the transmission lines would be
commissioned within three years
and the company would operate and
maintain the same for a minimum
tenure of 35 years thereafter.
The project involves
establishment of four 765kV single
circuit transmission lines, two
400kV double circuit transmission
lines of length 1,000 km and two
765/400kV substations. The
transmission system covers the
states of Madhya Pradesh,
Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The Bhopal-Dhule line is amongst
the three independent power
transmission lines that Sterlite is
implementing on BOOM basis. The
total investment in these lines is an

4,000 crore.
