NTPC on course to achieving 75,000-mw mark

Central power utility NTPC said
that it is on course to achieving
a power portfolio of 75,000 mw
by 2017, going by the current progress.
It has set a long-term target of
attaining total power capacity of
1,28,000 mw by 2032. The capacity
indicated includes that coming up in
joint ventures. Apart from thermal
power, NTPC's mainstay, the utility
also expects hydropower and other
forms of clean energy to account for a
significant share of its power
portfolio. NTPC is also working on
overseas projects including a 500-mw
coal-fired plant in Sri Lanka, coming
up in joint venture with Ceylon
Electricity Board.
NTPC currently has an installed
capacity of 34,854 mw, coming from
self-owned and joint venture plants.
According to information available,
NTPC currently has 14,088 mw of
power capacity under physical
construction. Another 18,471 mw of
projects are under the bidding stage.
NTPC has approved the feasibility
reports for 14,666 mw of capacity and
feasibility reports for yet another basket
of 16,272 are under preparation.
