Siemens Ltd reached an important milestone with the
delivery of its 100th gas insulated switchgear
recently. The 100th bay of GIS, coming from
Siemens' factory in Aurangabad, was handed over to S. K.
Negi, Managing Director, Gujarat Energy
Transmission Corporation Ltd (GETCO).
Siemens' state-of-the-art
Aurangabad factory has
achieved a distinction by
supplying the complete range
of GIS, starting from 72.5kV
up to 420kV in a short span of
time. A very high level of
localization, coupled with
development of the required
competencies in the area of
engineering, quality,
sourcing, manufacturing and
project management was
responsible for the successful
achievement of this
milestone. The clientele for
Siemens' GIS comprises
leading companies in power
generation and transmission,
apart from power utilities
and industrial clients.
A release by Siemens noted
that there is a growing trend
amongst clients to go in for
gas insulated switchgear (in
favour of conventional air insulated switchgear) as it saves
space. GIS is also substantially reduces operating and
maintenance costs, apart from providing higher reliability.

A K Dixit, CEO, Energy Sector, Siemens Ltd, said in a
statement, "This is a proud moment for Siemens Energy
Sector. We are pleased to partner the nation on increasing
reliability of the Power Sector, right from generation to
consumption. Our innovations directly benefit our
customers by enhancing their efficiency. With our
understanding of the complete energy conversion chain,
we are able to transform today's grid into a living
infrastructure that is smart enough to respond quickly,
flexibly and comprehensively to society's energy needs.
GIS is the way forward to ensure reliable electricity
supply with less usage of expensive real estate."
With a workforce of over 88,000, Siemens' Energy

1,63,490 crore
and received new orders totaling more than

1,92,980
crore and posted a profit of over
