As many as 27 out of 48 major electrical machinery
items recorded year-over-year decline in production
during the first three quarters of FY12, whilst
around 21 recorded increase according to DIPP
compilation for Index of Industrial Production (2004-05
base year). Overall, the composite production index of
electrical machinery industry declined by 2.7per cent
during the period, against 4.3 per cent in H1. The
combined price realization in electrical machinery as
measured by wholesale price index was around 2.8 per cent
higher in January 2012, against 4 per cent over H1.
Air break switches/circuit breakers recorded 26 per
cent increase during April-December 2012, over a similar
rate in the corresponding period of 2010-11. Production
index of gear boxes also speeded from 51 per cent to 59 per
cent. Boilers (21 per cent), air & gas compressors (11 per
cent), electric motor (excluding phase I) (16 per cent), air
conditioners (packaged) (28 per cent), XLPE cables (15
per cent), I.C.Chips & transistors (15 per cent), heat
exchangers (19 per cent), and mercury vapour lamps (17
per cent) also were among the products recording double digit
growth during April-December. Furnaces and
UPS/Inverter/Converter sank further in April-
December, whereas DC motors (-59 per cent), aluminium
conductor (-44 per cent), batter chargers (-53 per cent)
and colour picture tubes (-47 per cent) declined steep
decline during the period.
