Reliance Power has fully
commissioned its 1,200 mw
Rosa thermal power project
in Uttar Pradesh. The milestone
was reached when the fourth and
final coal-fired unit of 300 mw was
declared commercial on March 31,
2012. Unit 4 was commissioned
four months ahead of schedule.
Unit 3, when commissioned in
December 2011, was also ahead of
its implementation schedule.
The 4x300-mw Rosa project has
several firsts to its credit. It
represents the largest private
sector investment in Uttar
Pradesh, standing at around
Rs.6,000 crore. It is also the first
new thermal power project to be
set up in UP in the last 20 years.
The Rosa project represents the
first operational power plant of
Reliance Power Ltd. The Anil
Ambani enterprise has a portfolio
of over 19,000 mw of thermal,
hydropower and renewable energy
projects under various stages of
development and construction.
The Rosa power project located in
Shahjahanpur district will entirely
serve Uttar Pradesh. It is estimated
that the thermal power plant will
contribute to over 15 per cent of the
state's total energy requirement and
substantially help in bridging the
northern state's power deficit. In
the first eleven months (April to
February) of FY12, Uttar Pradesh
faced an energy deficit of 11.4 per
cent with its requirement of 74,354
million units fulfilled to the extent
of only 65,890 million units, as per
information released by Central
Electricity Authority.
