Biecco Lawrie to make Francis turbines

Central PSU Biecco Lawrie Ltd has envisaged manufacturing Francis turbines in the current financial year. The company, in its MoU with the petroleum and natural gas ministry for the year 2012-13 stated that the company wants to be a leader in low and medium voltage electricity distribution business and to emerge as a significant player in the small hydropower generation projects. With regards to the Francis turbines, the company mentioned that the model test of the prototype will be undertaken and certified by approved agency. Thereafter, the company will start manufacturing of Francis Turbine with in-house expertise.

Regarding electricity distribution, the company also mentioned that it plans to commence the manufacturing of 66kV and higher-rated switchgear in the current year. The company at present manufactures medium voltage vacuum circuit breakers up to 33kV. Biecco Lawrie takes up electrical turnkey projects at switchyards and substations. It also has presence is petroleum oil depot electrification, instrumentation and automation. Further, the company is in repair and refurbishing of hydropower station turbines and development of small and micro hydropower project.

Among other things, the company carries out repair of HT and LT, AC and DC electrical rotating machines of up to 10 mw capacity. Overhauling of transformers, manufacture and supply of coils of HT AC machine, armature and field coils of DC machine are also offered by the company. In the MoU, the company has mentioned that it plans to increase the share of projects and repair business by 10 per cent in the current financial year.
