Alstom T&D India has
successfully charged three
switchyard bays, at 765kV
and 400kV each, in a record time of
eight months. A company statement
issued in early June said that the bays
at Bhiwani in Haryana were
commissioned in March 2012 for
Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.
PGCIL had awarded the contract
worth Rs.196 crore to Alstom T&D
India in February 2010. Due to delay
in land acquisition the company
could start work on the 765kV
switchyard only in July 2011. The
scope of work included design,
manufacture, supply, erection,
testing and commissioning of 765kV,
400kV and 220kV equipment, with
complete civil work.
This Bhiwani switchyard is
considered as a nodal switchyard for
wheeling power from independent
power producers in northern India
and strengthening the transmission
system in the northern region of the
country. The switchyard shall cater
to various other 765kV switchyards
in northern India namely Moga,
Jhatikara, Meerut and Jaipur.
