Bharat Heavy Electricals has planned to set up a
greenfield manufacturing unit in Maharashtra. With
an investment outlay of Rs.159 crore, the new unit will
produce seamless tube products used in power
equipment. To be located at Bandara, the unit will have
annual capacity of 90,000 tonnes. BHEL chose western
India due to high demand for tubular products, and also
due to the proximity to major steel plants like Bhilai
(Chhattisgarh) and Rourkela (Orissa). Though land
acquisition has yet to begin, BHEL is hopeful of starting
production over the next three years. BHEL currently has
14 manufacturing units spread all over the country. The
main ones are at Bhopal, Ranipur and Rudrapur
(Uttarakhand), Jagdishpur and Jhansi (UP), Trichy
(Tamil Nadu) and Visakhapatnam (AP).
