Funding issues delay Tuirial HEP

Em News Bureau ,  Saturday, September 29, 2012, 16:01 Hrs  [IST]

The release of funds from ministry of Development of North Eastern Region DoNER has been delaying the implementation of NEEPCO's 60- mw Tuirial hydro electric project in Mizoram. As per the investment approval on the revised cost, the DoNER ministry is to provide a grant of Rs.300 crore. However, NEEPCO has not yet received the DoNER grant and this is contributing to more delays in the project schedule.

The ministry of DoNER is required to release grant Rs.100 crore in each in three successive years starting from 2010-11. Accordingly, an investment approval was issued to the project in January 2011. The power ministry has taken up the matter with DoNER ministry several times but despite repeated requests, NEEPCO has yet to receive the grant.
