The Kolkata-based Adhunik
Group has marked its entry into
commercial power generation
with the commissioning of its first
power plant, located in Jharkhand.
Group company Adhunik Power &
Natural Resources Ltd recently
commissioned the first unit of its
2x270-mw coal-fired thermal power
plant. APNRL is a step-down
subsidiary of Adhunik Metaliks, the
flagship company of the Adhunik
Group.
APNRL has entered into an MoU
with the Jharkhand government for
setting up 1,080 mw of power
generation capacity. In the first phase,
540 mw would be set up, out of which
first unit was recently commissioned.
The second unit of 270 mw is expected
to be commissioned by last quarter of
FY13.
APNRL has already signed a power
purchase agreement with Jharkhand
State Electricity Board, Power Trading
Corporation, Tata Power Trading
Company, and West Bengal State
Electricity Distribution Company,
aggregating around 435 mw. The
company has been provided long term
transmission open access and has
executed bulk power transmission
agreement with Power Grid
Corporation of India for 450 mw.
The company will operate this
power project by utilizing coal from
its captive mines at Ganeshpur noncoking
coal block in the Latehar
district of Jharkhand which is
expected to be operation by the second
quarter of FY14. In the interim, the
company will avail tapering coal
linkages from Coal India Ltd.
