Alstom in India announced a major milestone that it achieved when all four 60-mw Francis vertical turbines being installed by Alstom at the Uri II hydropower project successfully completed the spinning in less than twenty-four hours. The 240-mw Uri-II project is being constructed by NHPC on river Jhelum near Uri in Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir.
The test marks an important stage in the Uri II project, where Alstom is delivering the units on a turnkey basis from its Vadodara hydropower equipment facility in Gujarat. In the coming months, the units would be further synchronized with grid, a release by Alstom said.
Alstom was awarded the Uri II HEP contract by NHPC in 2007. The scope of work included turnkey execution of the electromechanical package comprising hydro-turbines, generators and auxiliaries.
Uri II aims to use downstream water discharge of the operational 480-mw Uri-I hydropower project.
