Luminous Power Technologies has planned to launch power backup solutions in the range of 1,000VA and above for commercial establishments like malls, hotels, etc. This is seen as a substitute for diesel generator sets.
Luminous will start marketing the product in north India to begin where the frequency and duration of power cuts is learnt to be high. Secondly, with diesel prices likely to go up soon, operational costs of diesel gensets are expected to rise significantly. The new high-rating inverters that will be more energy-efficient and greener, are therefore likely to have a lower lifecycle cost.
The company holds 60 per cent market share in the inverter and battery business in India, with a deep penetration in rural areas, tier-2 and tier-3 cities. In 2011, Schneider Electric acquired controlling stake in Luminous Power Technologies.
