Untitled - 2.jpgCrompton Greaves has planned to set up one of the world's largest ultra high voltage research centres, at Nashik in Maharashtra.

Having achieved leadership position in the manufacture of high voltage power products up to 800kV, this move to set up this UHV research centre at its Ambad plant in Nashik city is a giant leap towards fulfilling its cherished objective of positioning itself as the dominant player in the UHV arena, a release from CG said.

The company is making initial investment of approximately Rs.jpg40 crore to establish this research centre and will further augment infrastructure in the next three years with an additional Rs.jpg20 crore.

After performing the 'Bhoomipujan' and laying the foundation stone of the research centre, S M Trehan, Managing Director, CG, said, "This is indeed a momentous occasion for CG and the research activities planned here would tremendously enhance the technological capabilities of CG in this advanced technological arena"

CG has been in the forefront of technology development, fulfilling the new requirements of its customers in India and abroad. CG was one of the first partners to have volunteered to take up this challenge of developing indigenously three major products required for 1,200kV research station being established by Power Grid Corporation of India.

Speaking of its UHV expertise, the CG statement noted that the company has indigenously designed, developed and manufactured 800kV power transformer, gas circuit breakers, instrument transformers and surge arresters, apart from 1,200kV power products.

With solid foundation in design, development and manufacture of UHV products indigenously, this newly planned UHV research centre, which is an extension of their Global R&D centre, will enhance their inhouse research capabilities to optimize the designs and upgrade the products and services, the release added.
