Otis Elevator Company
(India) Ltd has embarked
on the expansion of its
Bangalore elevator factory in
Karnataka. On completion in early
2012, the expanded facility will be
three times the size of the current
factory and will include a test
tower, an official statement said.
The new, 27,500 square-meter
manufacturing facility will
incorporate leading Otis
technologies from all over the
world and is being built to
Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED)
Gold standards. Otis India is the
domestic arm of US head quartered
Otis Elevator
Company, in turn a unit of United
Technologies Corp.
"Otis India is pleased to further
build upon our 100-year history in
India while strengthening our
manufacturing presence in
Bangalore," said Laurent Bruyère,
Managing Director, Otis India.
"Our expanded facility will ensure
that Otis India is well-positioned to
support India's exponential growth
with quality, locally produced
elevators, while conserving the
country's valuable resources."
An expanded factory will enable
Otis India to more effectively serve
an India elevator market that is
expected to reach 70,000 units over
the next three years. Otis India's
Bangalore factory will also supply
the company's growing portfolio of
customers in India. Recently, Otis
was selected to provide 63 elevators
and escalators for Kohinoor Square,
a state-of-the art office complex in
Mumbai. Kohinoor Square will
include one of India's tallest office
buildings and is currently pursuing
LEED Platinum certification from
the Indian Green Building Council.
Otis also supplied its energyefficient
Gen2® elevators to
Kohinoor Hospital in India, the first
hospital in Asia to be awarded LEED
Platinum certification.
"This ground-breaking marks the
beginning of a new phase of Otis'
leadership in India," noted Bruyère.
"Since the first Otis elevator was
installed in Calcutta in 1892, we
have successfully partnered with
customers throughout India. Today,
we look forward to expanding our
local manufacturing expertise while
providing more than double the
number of job opportunities to the
people of Bangalore."
