E-auction route for scrap disposal

EM NEWS BUREAU ,  Thursday, June 23, 2011, 11:45 Hrs  [IST]

With a view to making scrap disposal more cost effective and transparent, state utility Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam said that it would go in for e-auction of material through Central PSU MSTC Ltd (formerly Metal Scrap Trading Corporation.) A large amount of scrap material is currently lying in over a dozen locations in UHBVNL ' s command area. On an average, the Nigam disposes off Rs.jpg15 crore worth of material and scrap every year. Earlier, these items were being disposed off through public auctions. The e-auctioning process will help make the system hassle-free and check on the spot grouping of contractors. Major items like power transformers, dirty transformer oil, HV/LV coil and conductor scrap etc would be disposed off through MSTC. The corporation charges 3 per cent of the total amount for providing services.
