With India poised to become the lead market in
sustainable energy solutions, there is a massive
skills shortage that is hampering progress in this
sector. To cater to the industry's need of the hour, IT Power
Group, a leading international energy consultancy in the
sustainable energy sector conducted a three-day technical
workshop on Concentrated Solar Power Plants (CSP) that
witnessed an unprecedented gathering of thought leaders
from the public and private sector. Supported by the
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy the workshop took
place from 18-20 May 2011.
The inaugural training workshop was well received by all
participants and provided incisive networking and
knowledge exchange over three days.
Among the many
highlights was the launch
of the highly anticipated
CSP report that was
commissioned by the
Australian Government's
Department of Climate
Change and Energy
Efficiency and authored
by the IT Power Group.
Fielding a panel of experts
presently active in the CSP field, the workshop delivered
leading-edge techniques and provided technical know-how
to the eager audience.
From policy regime and CSP deployment in India, to CSP
technologies and the financing of solar thermal power
plants, the workshop concluded with a site visit to two
operating solar thermal plants, providing the perfect blend
of theory and practical. R. Chandrasekar, Group CEO, IT
Power Group, said, "There is a huge dearth of qualified
manpower in India in the power sector, especially in the
renewable energy space. IT Power Group, as one of the
oldest global players in this space wants to make sure that it
takes a lead role in ensuring that this bottleneck does not
hurt the industry's growth. Hence, we have started a
training vertical that will focus on alleviating this
manpower shortage."

Sundram Fasteners to make wind power parts |
In what could be its first diversification out of the automotive
sector, TVS Group company Sundram Fasteners has proposed
to set up a plant for manufacturing fasteners used in wind power
equipment. To be set up with an investment of `50 crore, the plant
will come up in Tamil Nadu, close to the Union territory of
Puducherry. The estimated market size of these fasteners is
around `300 crore per year. Sundram will source technology for
the new parts from Peiner Umformtechnik of Germany, which
Sundram had acquired in late 2005. |
